Tangerines were my favorite childhood fruit. But when I was younger, I couldn’t figure out how to peel them, so I always asked my grandma to help. I watched as she happily took it and removed the peel in just a few quick motions. I use oil paints to illustrate the diverse textures and details that revealed themselves as the fruit unfurled like a flower. Painting this brought me back to a distant memory; one of the excitement of biting into a juicy tangerine slice and laughing at the kitchen table with my grandma.
